Eataly opens in New York

This emporium dedicated to all things food (and more!) from Italy opened a mega-outpost on Fifth Avenue near 23rd Street.  It’s huge with different areas dedicated to all sorts of foods from Italy: cheese, cold cuts, bread, pizza, gelato, jam, coffee and so on.  There are many offerings that are not well-known in New York.  The pasta section – both fresh and dry – is spectacular.  You can shop and, cart in tow, stop to have something to eat or drink.  Prices are highish but if you’re looking for Italian ingredients this is a place worth visiting.

Relax and rejuvenate at a wine spa in Umbria

Want to pamper yourself with a wine massage or facial and maybe drink a few glasses of good wine too?  NPR’s report about the wine spa Belle Uve in Torgiano, a medieval borgo near Perugia, describes the health and beauty benefits of wine treatments.  Torgiano is also home to the Lungarotti Winery, which produces some of Umbria’s finest wines, and to the well-regarded restaurant Le Tre Vaselle.

Looking forward to Eataly opening in NY

Eataly is a specialty food and wine market that first opened in Turin.  A new outpost is set to open in New York August 31st.  It will be a huge store – they say 50,000 square feet – dedicated to “the best Italy has to offer.”  It will include boutique eateries, a microbrewery, espresso bars, a gelateria, a panino bar and more.  The Turin shop is fantastic so we can’t wait to see the New York version!

Article about NYC’s new slow pace in La Repubblica

According to this article in La Repubblica New York City’s pace is slowing down.  The article mentions new playgrounds, car-free areas, bike paths and street lights that give pedestrians more time to cross as examples of a less-frenetic lifestyle in the Big Apple.  Is the city that never sleeps getting a taste of la dolce vita?
